Events & Calendar
School events bring learning to life and help shape our school culture. They help students build confidence, connect with others and celebrate their progress. Events also give families a chance to be involved in school life and share in their child’s achievements.
Our school events may include:
Term 1 Events
Harmony Week
Harmony Week, held annually in March and culminating on 21st March, celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity and promotes inclusiveness, aligning with the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. At our school, students show support by wearing orange or cultural outfits and engage in activities that foster understanding, respect, and a sense of belonging among all cultures.
Easter Hat Parade
Our annual Easter Hat Parade, held at the end of Term One, is a fun and creative event where students design and decorate their own unique hats. Families are warmly invited to join us and celebrate the vibrant creations as students proudly showcase their festive headwear. It’s a wonderful way to bring the school community together and celebrate the end of the term with joy and creativity!
ANZAC Service
Our ANZAC Service, often held in the final week of term before ANZAC Day, is a meaningful occasion where students bring flowers to create class wreaths. These wreaths are respectfully laid during the ceremony to honour and remember those who have served. Holding the service before ANZAC Day ensures we pay proper tribute at the appropriate time, fostering a sense of reflection and gratitude among our students.
Term 2 Events
Mother's Day Stall
The Mother’s Day Stall, organised by the CMPS P&C, is held during the week leading up to Mother’s Day, which falls on the second Sunday in May. It gives students the chance to choose thoughtful gifts for their mums or special people in their lives. The stall features a range of affordable and meaningful presents, making it a lovely tradition to celebrate and show appreciation.
National Simultaneous Storytime
Each year, our school participates in National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), an event organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Students gather to enjoy a specially selected Australian picture book, read aloud simultaneously with children across the country. NSS celebrates reading and promotes literacy while supporting key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6. It’s a fun and meaningful way for our school community to connect through storytelling.
Parent / Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher Interviews are held at the end of Term 2, following the distribution of academic reports. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss student progress, celebrate achievements, and address any questions or concerns. They foster open communication and support student growth as we work together to ensure the best outcomes for every child.
Term 3 Events
Book Week
During Book Week, students participate in a variety of fun and engaging activities that celebrate the joy of reading. The highlight of the week is the Book Character Parade, where students dress up as their favourite book characters and share their love of stories with the school community. It’s a vibrant and exciting time that inspires creativity and a lifelong passion for books.
Education Week & Open Day
Education Week, often celebrated alongside Book Week, is a special time where we showcase the wonderful learning happening at our school. Families are invited to join us for an Open Day to visit their child’s classroom and experience their daily learning environment. This week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate student achievements, explore engaging activities, and connect with our school community.
Father's Day Stall
The Father’s Day Stall, organised by the CMPS P&C, is held during the week leading up to Father’s Day, which falls on the first Sunday in September. Students have the opportunity to purchase special gifts for their dads or important role models in their lives. The stall offers a variety of affordable and thoughtful presents, helping students celebrate and show appreciation for those who support and care for them.
Term 4 Events
CMPS P&C School Carnival
Our annual P&C School Carnival, usually held on a Friday night in November, is a fun-filled event featuring market stalls, exciting rides, and a variety of delicious food trucks. It’s a great opportunity for families and the community to come together, enjoy entertainment, and support the school. Join us for a memorable evening of laughter, fun, and celebration!
New Kindy Orientation Sessions
Our Kindergarten Orientation Sessions provide an exciting introduction for children enroling next year. During these sessions, students participate in group play activities designed to help them feel comfortable and engaged. Meanwhile, parents attend information sessions to learn more about the school and prepare for the year ahead. It’s a wonderful way to start the transition to school for both children and families.
Year 6 Graduation & Farewell
The Year 6 Farewell and Graduation is a special milestone marking the end of primary school. The Graduation Ceremony, held at school, includes students receiving their certificates in recognition of their achievements. The Farewell is a celebratory evening off school grounds, featuring dinner and dancing to honour this important transition. On their last day, Year 6 students walk out under a joyful arch formed by the hands of their fellow students, creating a memorable send-off.
Celebration of Learning Assembly
Our Celebration of Learning Assembly recognises students' outstanding achievements, including highest awards and Dux honours. It is also the occasion where next year’s school leadership team is announced. This special event is sometimes attended by local MPs, making it a proud moment for our school community to come together and celebrate excellence and leadership.
Recurring Events
Weekly School Sport
Every Friday, students participate in school sport activities, enjoying a variety of games and sports with their class. To take part, students wear their sports uniform, ensuring they are comfortable and ready to be active. Weekly sport promotes teamwork, fitness, and fun for all students.
10c Container Collection
Every second Thursday, our school collects eligible 10c containers to raise money for the P&C, supporting important projects and initiatives. Students bring in containers to fill their class bins, and the classes with the highest counts receive PBL tokens as a reward. This program encourages recycling, teamwork, and community spirit while helping our school.
Assembly
Families are warmly invited to join our fortnightly Assembly, held on Thursday afternoons from 2 to 3 pm. During Assembly, classes showcase performances such as dances, songs, or readings, while Principal’s and Honour Awards are presented and important school updates are shared. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate student achievements.
Recognition Assembly
Recognition Assemblies are held on the last odd week Thursday of each term and focus on celebrating outstanding student achievements. These assemblies include the presentation of Principal’s and Honour Awards, as well as special awards for sporting, academic, and extracurricular accomplishments such as dance or choir. Unlike regular assemblies, there are no class performances, allowing us to highlight and honour these exceptional achievements in a meaningful way.
CMPS P&C Meetings
The CMPS P&C (Parents & Citizens Association) meetings are held twice each term and provide an opportunity for parents and carers to get involved in school decision-making and support. These meetings are a great way to stay informed, share ideas, and contribute to initiatives that benefit our school community. Everyone is welcome to attend and have a voice in shaping our school’s future.
